I have purchased a new or additional car, what do I need to do?

If you are purchasing the automobile from a licensed Massachusetts dealer, they can process the paperwork for you. You need to give them our phone number (781) 893-1345 and our fax number, (781) 893-0810. Many dealers can now process the transfer or issuance of new plates with the Registry of Motor Vehicles electronically.

You should call us and let us know you are planning on getting a new car so we can discuss any changes in coverages you wish to make.

If the purchase is from a private party, you need to obtain the signed title from the seller and bring it to us. We can process the change for you at the Registry.

Will my insurance premium change when I do this? And how much.

When you change to a different vehicle, the collision and comprehensive premiums will change. The amount will depend on the type and year of the new vehicle. Call or e-mail us and we will be happy to figure the new premium.

Of course, if this is an additional car, the premium will increase based on the coverages you select.

What costs are involved in changing or adding a vehicle?

The Registry charges $50.00 for a new title, a 5% sales tax , and either $15.00 to transfer your existing plate or $30.00 for a new plate.
